View Full Version : Thinking integration...

Now that I have my arcade set up and seems to be running smoothy (Yay!), I'm thinking about best ways to integrate it into the main site, and users n passwords n such.
Arcade is intalled at games.bubcity.com and main site is bubcity.com, which is running wordpress mu. Of course, I'd like the same usernames and passwords across the intire site.
The quick and dirty solution would be to have a user created in the arcade when they sign up at the main site, and redirect all new user registrations in the arcade to the sign up page in the main site. Only issue with that is if the user changes their password, it would need updated at the arcade. Or just let users know they have to update both, but that's a little to hacky even for me. =)
I'm thinking another approach would be to hack saa so it uses the username and password from the wordpress database instead of it's own. Does that make sense?
This way updating user info is not an issue, and I may later use the same db connection to further integrate see and wpmu. Of course, registration must be done through the wpmu at the main site, any points of registration in the games site redirected accordingly.
I would need to hire this out, as it's beyond my copy/paste capacity (but I'm a lernin'!), so I guess I'm also asking for a proposal. But open to any thoughts on the matter as well.

If I were you, for integration, I would disable signup and login at SAA, and then on your wp side, create something that when they log in to wp, it creates the session for SAA as well.
With 1.2 (scheduled for late october) will include some basic tools for integration purposes. In the meantime, you may want to do something custom, but once 1.2 comes out, we will probably create some free integrations for wp and some other platforms.

I don't know how that would work with usernames, since that wouldn't create a user in saa, so what account would the session apply to? I don't know how sessions works, that's just the first thing that popped into my head, thinking about it. But if sessions would be a better way to go, I'm for it.
I know integration between wp and bbpress (the forum) involves using sessions for dual login, and requires copying 3 keys and 3 salts from the wp-config.php. It also has the option to use wp database or it's own, in the later case creating corresponding users when they sign up in wp.
Just food for thought.

That changes everything. :)
If there is a new version coming that soon, I'll just leave the current installation as is and have some fun with it. I'll worry about integrating user accounts when the new version is out. To be honest, there are some other things I'm waiting for as well, so not really in a hurry to open BubCity.com to the public just yet. I think I'll just post an announcement that the site is open for testing purposes, or something like that.
Well.. I'm going to go play with my website now. Later!
EDIT: What about Joomla? SAA would make an awesome Joomla component. Then I could simply install joomla to the games directory and synk user accounts from there. Just thinking..

What we're going to do is create an integration API that allows easy transfer and creation/login of members. It will make it super easy to make integrations with just about anything.

ouch...
ok Citizen I hope will be very soon! :D
and... what you think, if I start now a site with only SAA, with the new API will be possible to transfer the gamers in the users db of wp?
Or is it better to wait?and install wp and SAA in a same time?
thank you!
ciao :)

Yes, basically the API will cover everything you'd need to do get it fully integrated.
